[10:38] <mileszs> VICTORY! Stupid odbc.
[10:38] <davidray> Oi! I haven't had to use ODBC for so many years. Thanks for bringing back _pleasant_ memories.
[10:39] <mileszs> By the way, anyone want to code up some UPS Freight Web Services bullshit for peanuts/beer? Haha.
[10:39] <dsp> mileszs: depends on how much beer you're offering
[10:39] <mileszs> I have a lot of pent up anger towards ODBC. Or, maybe just towards SQL Server.
[10:40] <mileszs> Oh, did I mention I need PHP?
[10:40] <dsp> writing in perverse languages can be fun, as long as it is done in low doses
[10:43] <mileszs> I need to just sit down and do it. I've been putting it off, and probably mentally imagining it to be much worse than it will turn out to be.
[10:54] <dsp> what kind of web service is it?
[13:08] <mileszs> SOAP ... is that the answer for which you're looking?
[13:09] <mileszs> I'm not well-versed in the Web Services world. (From the manual UPS provides, I'm assuming Web Services must be capitalized at all times.)
[13:39] <unixmonkey> what are you doing? putting in a weight and address to get back a freight quote?
[13:42] <dsp> ah, lovely soap
[14:39] <unixmonkey> Miles, I'd be interested in helping. I need something like that myself.
[15:08] <mileszs> unixmonkey: Yes. In PHP. I haven't actually touched it yet. I've just printed the 33 page section of the manual that deals with the FreightRateRequest. (The response section is an equal number of pages, I believe. The manual is 300+ pages, mostly explaining the required XML. I thought XML was supposed to be self-explanatory.)
[15:08] <mileszs> This is for UPS Freight, by the way.
[15:10] <dsp> it's soap. you're supposed to sprinkle fairy dust on wsdl and let the magic happen!
[15:12] <mileszs> No shit. The manual says multiple places "just load the WSDL into an enterprise IDE such as Visual Studio and it will create the code and classes you need".
[15:13] <mileszs> I'm tempted to install Eclipse just to see what happens. I'm sure I have to install Eclipse, and then buy some enterprise plugin or some shit.
[15:14] <dsp> to do what with eclipse?
[15:14] <dsp> if you just want to see what happens with the wsdl and java you don't need eclipse
[15:14] <dsp> just get axis
[15:15] <mileszs> Is there an Allies alternative? What's Axis?
[15:15] <dsp> axis the popular java soap library
[15:15] <dsp> err, axis is
[15:37] <mileszs> Yuck.
[15:38] <mileszs> Fuck. I meant "Fuck".
[15:47] <dsp> Yail
